Kindergarten

Holy Redeemer's Kindergarten Program is geared towards a developmentally appropriate approach to developing the whole child in these early years of their school life.   Along with the content areas listed below the Kindergarten curriculum also includes student participation in physical education, library, art, and, music.

  • Religion
    • Image of God Book Series
    • Who am I? We are made in the image of God
    • Learn Daily Prayers and Rosary
    • Attend Mass
    • Prayer Buddies - each child has an 8th grade Prayer Buddy
  •  Language Arts
    Mixture of Phonics-based "Superkids" and a whole language "Treasures" approach to reading
    • Whole language approach draws from the "Treasures" Reading Program by McGraw Hill.
    • Treasures provides high-frequency words as well as leveled readers that provide support for readers at their level as well as provide complementary materials for science and social studies.
    • "Superkids" Program  by the Rowland Reading Foundation entails the following principles for teaching reading:
      • Motivation - engaging the students to be excited and interested in learning
      • Integration of Language Arts - reading, spelling, writing, grammar, listening and speaking
      • Phonemic Awareness
      • Phonics instruction to permit decoding words, leading to fluency, and comprehension
      • Phonetically controlled vocabulary
      • Multimodal approach - incorporating auditory, visual and kinesthetic modes of learning.
  • Math
    • Math in Focus - Singapore Math based Program
      • Math in Focus aims to have children think mathematically about problems and their solutions.  Children are given opportunities to investigate, discover, explore, and apply their own solutions to mathematical problems.  They learn to use numbers to make connections and recognize relationships between numbers and real life situations.
