1st Grade Curriculum
We work to actively promote our Catholic Identity by caring for and respecting each other. We reinforce the school motto of Respect, Reverence, and Responsibility in all academic and social areas. Developing a classroom sense of community and partnership which allows the children to feel comfortable and willing to take learning risks is a very big part of first grade.
Our goal is to provide our students with the building blocks (phonemic awareness, print concept, short/long vowels, etc) to become life long readers. Basic math concepts/skills (shapes, numbers, graphing, addition, etc) are introduced as part of their learning foundation. This year the students will be introduced to a variety of topics in Science that include plants, animals, healthy eating and more. In Social Studies, the students will learn about families, culture, important people and more. Our religion focus will center on God and the good things He has created for us to love and care for.
